All testing is practitioner-ordered. Tests are performed only on the requisition of a licensed practitioner exercising their own clinical judgement.
Not covered by MSP. Our services sit outside the provincial plan and are billed privately to the patient.
Itemized invoices and accredited reports are issued for every test, so patients can claim against a benefits plan.
Conventional, non-POCT molecular assays, chemistry and hematology testing are performed at our BC DAP ISO 15189 accredited laboratory in Richmond and at our partnered laboratories.
Specimen collection for NovaLab Central processing can be done at a partner medical clinic or healthcare centre, at a NovaPoint site, or at NovaLab Central, which is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. Mobile phlebotomists can also attend a site by arrangement. Where a patient attends a NovaPoint site, central testing can be collected on the same accession as any point-of-care testing ordered at the same time, so they attend once.

Performed at our partnered laboratories, ordered and reported through NovaLabs.

We partner with established national laboratories alongside our own accredited microbiology laboratory, so the menu is broad without compromising on quality. Where a method sits outside our scope, the specialists within our network perform it — and we manage the referral, so you and your patient deal with one laboratory.
The arrangement works in both directions. For partner laboratories and clinical programmes, we provide accredited collection sites they would otherwise have to build — extending their reach in British Columbia without the capital cost.
We partner with leading national workplace and reference laboratories to bring comprehensive corporate health and wellness screening to British Columbia — combining their programme infrastructure with our local accredited infrastructure. Each test is performed by the specialty laboratory in our network holding the appropriate Canadian accreditation for it.
Employees attend whichever collection point suits them — a NovaPoint site, their healthcare centre, or their own workplace, where mobile phlebotomists can attend on site — rather than travelling to a central collection facility. Usually the difference between a programme people complete and one they defer.
Discuss a workplace programResults are released on an individual basis to the ordering practitioner and the employee — never to an employer, and never as a pooled report. We work with practitioners, not with human resources departments.
Every specimen is tested in Canada, and every record is held here under Canadian privacy law. No employee health information leaves the country.
Every test we perform is ordered by a licensed practitioner on a requisition. We do not accept patient self-referral tests.
Our services are not covered by the Medical Services Plan and are billed privately to the patient. Where a test is available to your patient under MSP or through a provincial screening programme, please prioritise that pathway. Ours is an alternative route for proactive or employer-arranged testing, not a substitute for publicly funded care.
Please tell your patient the cost at the point of ordering. Private-pay testing is an optional consideration for the patient, and should never be presented as the only route available to them.
Many patients have a route to reimbursement. Extended health plans frequently reimburse practitioner-ordered diagnostic testing, and where an employer provides a health spending account, allocated dollars can generally be applied. Coverage varies by plan and insurer, so patients should confirm with their plan administrator.
Every test is issued with an itemized invoice and an accredited laboratory report, which is what a claim requires.
We ask for basic information about your clinic, including your medical director’s college or association number.
